5 Signs It’s Time to Call an Electrician in OKC

Updated October 2026

Most electrical problems give you a heads-up before they turn serious. Here are five signs worth paying attention to.

1. Flickering or dimming lights

A loose bulb is an easy fix. Lights that dim when the AC or fridge kicks on, or that flicker in several rooms, can point to an overloaded circuit or a loose connection. Both are worth having checked.

2. Breakers that trip or fuses that blow often

An occasional trip is normal. Frequent trips mean something is off, whether that's too much on one circuit, a wiring problem, or a worn-out breaker. Why breakers keep tripping.

3. A burning smell or scorched outlets

A sharp, acrid smell or brown marks around an outlet or switch mean heat is building up. Stop using that outlet, flip off its breaker if you can, and call us right away.

4. Warm outlets or switches

Outlets and switch plates shouldn't feel warm. If they do, the circuit may be overloaded or a connection may be failing.

5. An older home that hasn't been updated

Homes more than a few decades old often have two-prong outlets, ungrounded wiring, or a panel that wasn't built for today's appliances. Some older panels are known problems too. 3 panel brands that need an upgrade. An inspection can tell you where you stand, and it may also help with insurance.
